Education is the first line of defense against humanity's most serious global challenges.

We design and distribute Peace Literacy Curriculum. Free. For every student in every school around the globe, from pre-school to college and beyond.

our work

Peace literacy is survival literacy. A peace literate world is a secure, just, and prosperous world.

Trauma, rage, mistrust, alienation—and the unjust systems they fuel—are the monsters we face as we struggle for the survival of humanity and our planet. We don't have to face these monsters alone. Together we can build strong communities. We can become better trained. We can level up.

Building on West Point’s world-class leadership training and the disciplined vision of Civil Rights leaders,

we educate people to be as well-trained in waging peace as soldiers are in waging war.

Humanity can no longer settle for peace as an abstract concept or sentimental wish. We teach the practical skills and frameworks needed to create peace that is realistic, resilient, and sustainable. Peace Literacy empowers us to confront root causes of problems rather than surface symptoms.

curriculum

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights includes education in reading and writing. Our global goal is to have education in Peace Literacy recognized as a human right. Peace Literacy is the human right that empowers us to protect all of our other human rights and fully flourish as human beings.
A peace literate world is a secure, just, and prosperous world.

Peace Literacy has the capacity to repair our broken parts and create a nonviolent world anchored in dignity, meaning, purpose, and compassion for all. Given the crucial role that Peace Literacy can play, I support the recognition of education in Peace Literacy as a universal human right.

— Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu

what people say

“Staff left the Peace Literacy workshop energized and enthused. Within a week ... teachers were building new lesson plans to integrate Peace Literacy into their teaching. There was real hope and passion about how teaching skills of peace might transform our work with students and each other.”

— COLLEEN WORKS, Assistant Principal, Oregon State Teacher of the Year 2011

Corvallis High School, Corvallis, Oregon
